Within the Division of Technology for Biology and Health, the Biosystems on chip Division develops new microfluidic device. In collaboration with Grenoble Hospital, we especially develop new microsystems for pancreatic cells encapsulation. In some case, the only option for people suffering from type I Diabetes is to receive a pancreatic graft. This is associated with long, expensive and restrictive immuno-suppressive treatments. One alternative is to graft encapsulated cells in order to limit or to suppress these immuno-suppressive treatments. Today’s encapsulation technologies involve many manual steps leading to poor reproducibility in batch to batch production. At CEA-Leti we decided to implement a new cell encapsulation system ensuring high quality encapsulation and batch to batch reproducibility.



The core of this project is to implement new functions and new process in the existing cell encapsulation device. In collaboration with other department at CEA, the candidate will have first to develop and characterize a new microfluidic device for cell sorting. These steps involved the set-up of a dedicated bench, the design and conception of microfluidic chips. Experiments on living cell will be performed. Cell viability and functionality will be performed either on primary cell culture or cell lines. In a second time, the candidate will optimize the cell encapsulation process, involving microfluidic tests, cell culture assays, chemical synthesis and chemical surface grafting.



Candidate Profile

The candidate shall speak English (or French) and have good communication skills as he/she will have to work and report inside a collaborative team. He/She shall possess a background in the field of physics/engineering, physics/chemistry, Bioengineering, soft material characterization. Knowledge in microfluidics and/or cell culture would be a plus. The candidate shall have an experimentalist profile and be highly motivated by multidisciplinary project.

Starting date: 1/04/2015

Duration: 12 months, but good prospects for continuing employment up to 2 years.

Postdoctoral researcher / engineer position in biomolecule dynamics

The Laboratory for Photonics and Nanostructures (LPN) is working on an apparatus to measure rate constants of reactions involving biomolecules. A periodic thermal excitation drives the chemical system out-of-equilibrium and kinetic data are extracted from the associated fluorescence response collected in the frequency domain. The technique has been validated relying on oligonucleotides as model reagents and we now aim at proving that its use can be extended to proteins. Three kinds of reactions will be studied: folding, ligand binding, and dimer formation. These demonstration experiments will allow us to advertize our approach to a larger audience and thus they will ease our efforts to develop a commercial product. The present one year project will be realized in the context of a collaboration between the LPN and the Biophysical Chemistry group at the Chemistry Department of the Ecole Normale Supérieure. According to the schedule, some measurements will also be performed on the Disco beamline of the Soleil synchrotron.

Required qualifications:

• PhD in biophysics or biology-related sciences (cell biology, molecular biology) – an equivalent research experience is also acceptable

• Knowledge of thermodynamics and kinetics • Experience in protein expression and purification

• Experience in absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy

• Excellent organization and communication skills

• Ability to collaborate with different teams


Preferable qualifications:

• Experience in fluorescence microscopy

• Experience with fluorescent proteins

• Experience in interfacing and instrumentation

• Background in protein folding, protein-protein interactions

T h e Surfaces & Interfaces L a b (LaFSI) at the Physics Department of the University of Padova (Italy) announces the opening of an experimental postdoctoral position. The local research activities will be supervised by Dr. M. Pierno and the research project embeds in the framework of the Ideas Starting grant DROEMU (Droplets & Emulsions: Dynamics & Rheology, c.n. 279004). Besides Dr. Pierno, other team members include Prof. G. Mistura (Padua, Italy), Profs. M. Sbragaglia and L. Biferale (Rome, Italy), plus a ten of Post-Docs and PhD students working either in Rome or in Padova. Project: The research activity will experimentally explore the fowing properties of droplets & emulsions confned in microfuidic devices, by means of image based techniques (micro-PIV, image- & specklevelocimetry, etc.). Research topics will focus on droplets dynamics and their collective behaviour. We will address a series of frontier questions related to the manipulation and control of single droplet motion in micro- and nano-channels (e.g. stability & break-up in confned channels) and also focusing on the rheological properties of confned emulsions, to quantify the impact of confnement and boundary conditions on the fow properties and the relationship connecting the shear and stress. Presently the micro-fabrication and fow-imaging facilities are operational both for single (micro)droplets and microfuidic rheology. Throughout all the Research Project the experimental investigation will be accompanied by continuos comparisons with theory and numerical simulations performed in close collaboration with the group of Physics of Complex Fluids at the University of Rome led by Prof. M. Sbragaglia. Position: The position will be activated within June 2015 for 18 months. It is meant for full-time research activity with no teaching load. The gross salary is around 2800 Euros per month. Skills: Experimental skills on microfuidics & microfabrication, optical microscopy and rheology are welcome. Preference will be given to applicants trained in soft-matter, with strong motivations and creativity. Dans le cadre de l’Institut Pierre Gilles de Gennes pour la Microfluidique (, la Fondation Pierre Gilles de Gennes ( recrute un ingénieur en microfabrication. Affecté(e) à l’IPGG, l’ingénieur recruté(e) collaborera étroitement avec la FPGG, qui est le coordonnateur administratif de l’IPGG.

L’IPGG occupera une surface d’environ 4000m2, située rue Jean Calvin (Paris 5ème). La surface investie comprendra des laboratoires et un plateau technologique mutualisé de 450m2, composé d’une salle blanche de classes ISO 6 et 7 de 100 m2, d’une salle grise de 150 m2, d’une salle de microscopie, d’une salle de culture cellulaire et d’un atelier de micro-usinage.

Cet institut de coopération scientifique est composé de laboratoires appartenant à l’Institut Curie, à l’ESPCI-ParisTech, à l’ENS et à Chimie-ParisTech. Y travaillent des chercheurs et des étudiants des établissements fondateurs, du CNRS et de l’Université Pierre et Marie Curie.



L’ingénieur partagera la responsabilité du parc d’appareils du plateau technologique. Il aura une fonction support pour l’ensemble des personnels de l’institut :

• Supervision des activités de microfabrication

• Etablissement des protocoles

• Formation à l’utilisation des appareils et des technologies

• Conseil et aide au développement de nouveaux protocoles

• Veille technologique

• Participation aux réseaux professionnels associés aux activités technologiques de l’Institut



Le candidat devra être motivé(e), autonome et avoir un esprit collectif. Il aura un intérêt pour la microfluidique, les technologies de soft lithographie et sera attiré(e) par les projets interdisciplinaires.


Les compétences requises pour le poste sont :

• Connaissance approfondie des concepts, techniques et procédés de microfabrication en salle blanche et salle grise.

• Connaissance approfondie des méthodes de caractérisation associées.

• Notions de base en techniques de vide, thermique, optique, mécanique.

• Logiciels de CAO (Ex. Autocad, Catia,…)

• Anglais courant écrit et oral


Des compétences en hygiène et sécurité seront un plus.


Niveau minimal exigé : BAC + 5, master ou équivalent.


Contrat : CDD suivi éventuellement d’un CDI

Salaire : 30-35 k€ bruts annuels selon profil et expérience
